ESI’s Annual Happy Holiday Safety Tips for Home and Office

Having a safe holiday means keeping our family and employees safe and secure this holiday season. Unfortunately, we live in an unsecured time where two distinctly different occurrences can happen. Many times, we let our “security guard down” while traveling, vacationing, shopping, attending events, or visiting relatives and family members.  Second, we take for granted that the businesses and homes we leave unattended will remain safe throughout the holiday season. These two factors are important because the last thing on many minds, this time of the year is taking additional precautions. December is the biggest month for business and home burglary break-ins and thefts. While we’re enjoying the season, criminals are taking advantage of many opportunities the holiday season presents. We at ESI, Emergency Systems Inc. one of Florida’s largest commercial and high-end residential security company believe your biggest concern should be keeping your employees, customers, and family safe. Here are ESI’s holiday tips for commercial as well as residential customers to keep everybody safe this holiday season.

ESI’s Holiday Tip #1

Soft Targets are referred to as easy prey, and a parked car at a shopping mall or a home with no lights on just might contain Christmas gifts. Actually, it is easier to break-in to a parked car than one might suspect.

There is limited protection from vehicle break-ins while shopping, and it is always a good idea to place your valuables in the trunk than on the back seat. If you return to your car look around and make sure you are not spotting someone who might be a thief. Always be aware of individuals in your immediate vicinity. Hopefully, shopping areas have step-up security measures around the holidays. Remember, the vehicle and the family you protect, maybe your own…

ESI’s Holiday Tip #2

Today, more than ever the internet has become the most convenient way to shop. With all of those purchases being delivered and arriving at all times of the day and night criminals are lurking for opportunities to steal whatever they can. Businesses as well as residential homes are getting deliveries. ESI provides state-of-the-art security surveillance video cameras and CCTV.  We also carry the new “Verified Alarm Monitoring” devices which are very effective in protecting your deliveries. In the event, a thief tries to steal a package, these security devices will not only aid police in apprehending the perpetrators but could thwart the crime. ESI recommends that when valuable items are delivered, coordinate the delivery time with someone to sign for it. Always be aware of any strangers lurking around that do not look familiar. Never try an approach anyone you suspect of foul play.  The non-emergency police help-line is available for referring that you suspect something or someone is wrong.

ESI’s Holiday Tip #3

If you receive valuable packages don’t leave empty, identifiable boxes out until the garbage day. Crooks love to know what items you have received for Christmas. Don’t let your home or office become a target for new items of value. Flatten, stack cardboard boxes so they cannot be identified.

ESI’s Holiday Tip #4

When leaving your office, retail business, or home, leave indoor and outdoor lights on a timer. If you have more than one car at home, leave one in the driveway. If criminals suspect someone is guarding the house you have less of a chance of being broken into. A Smart Security System from ESI is an easy solution to these problems. Being able to turn lights on and off, control your thermostat, enable the alarm system at will form an app remotely is a marvelous technology.

ESI’s Holiday Tip #5

Christmas trees, in homes and office buildings, can become a fire hazard. Use LED bulbs to reduce the risk of fire as they do not get hot. Live Christmas trees should have water keeping them moist, which will reduce the risk of drying out. Never leave your Christmas tree lights on for long periods of time, especially at night.  ESI has a proven security system that can allow you to turn Christmas tree lights on and off every night. If you forget to turn off the tree lights before you leave, simply use our Virtual Keypad App to turn them off from anywhere you have cellular service.

ESI’s Holiday Tip #6

At home always inspect any wood-burning fireplace chimney at least once a year. Never burn sappy wood as sediment can re-ignite causing a fire. Chimneys should always be free of sediment if you plan on building a fire in them.
